Kemalpaşa is the easternmost district of Artvin, on the Black Sea coast near the Sarp border crossing with Georgia, bordered by Hopa to the west and Borçka to the east. Formerly called Makriali, it is home to the ruined historic Makriyali Church. It was raised from a town to a district in 2017.
