Aziziye

Aziziye is a district on the plain just north-east of the city of Erzurum. The Aziziye bastions, built between 1867 and 1872 under Sultan Abdülaziz, formed an important defence line in the Russo-Turkish War of 1877-78, and the Nene Hatun Monument and tomb next to them commemorate that resistance. The district's hot springs are also among the region's known thermal sources.
