The Congress Building was built in 1864 by Migirdiç Sanasaryan as the Sanasaryan School. It hosted the 1919 Erzurum Congress, convened under the leadership of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. Today it is open to visitors as the Erzurum Painting and Sculpture Museum and Gallery.
