Anadolu Fortress was built by Yıldırım Bayezid in 1395 at the narrowest point of the Bosphorus, to control passing ships. It lost its military importance after the conquest and, together with Rumeli Fortress on the opposite shore, is preserved today under the Fortresses Museum.
