Esenyurt, on İstanbul's European side, is bordered by Büyükçekmece, Başakşehir, Arnavutköy, Avcılar and Beylikdüzü, and was formed in 2008 by separating from Büyükçekmece. With a population that passed one million by 2025, it is Turkey's most populous district; İstanbul Esenyurt University has operated here since 2013.
