Built by Mimar Sinan for Suleiman the Magnificent in the 1550s, the Süleymaniye is a great complex with madrasas, a hospital and a soup kitchen. The tombs of Suleiman and Hürrem Sultan are in the mosque garden, and Sinan's own tomb is at the corner of the complex. Its courtyard looks over the Golden Horn.
