Kahramanmaraş Castle
A castle on a hill in the middle of the city, in use since Late Hittite times.

The castle on the hill in the city centre dates back to the Late Hittite period and was repaired and used through the Roman, Byzantine, Seljuk and Ottoman eras. Work at the castle has uncovered Late Hittite pieces such as the Maraş Lion, now in the Archaeology Museum. Seen as a symbol of the War of Independence, the castle was damaged in the 2023 earthquakes and reopened to visitors in 2026 after restoration; the top gives views over the city.
