Devrekani lies on mountainous, forested land between the districts of Taşköprü, Seydiler, Küre, İnebolu, Bozkurt and Çatalzeytin. Its name is said to derive from 'Devlethanı', a caravanserai used during the İsfendiyaroğlu period; Atatürk's visit here on 28 August 1925, during his Hat Reform tour, is commemorated annually.
