At 3,917 metres, Erciyes is the highest mountain in Central Anatolia and Türkiye's fifth-highest overall; it is an extinct volcano whose eruptions around 30 million years ago helped shape the landscape of Cappadocia. Its summit is snow-capped for most of the year. It is visited as a ski resort in winter and for mountaineering, hiking and highland tourism in other seasons.
