Formerly known as Midye, Kıyıköy sits on a rocky stretch of coast between the Pabuçdere stream to the north and the Kazandere to the south, both registered as first-degree natural sites. The town has historic structures from the Byzantine period, including Kıyıköy Castle and the Monastery of St Nicholas, plus a late-Ottoman mosque and a harbour bathhouse.
