The Mor Gabriel Monastery, held to have been founded at the end of the 4th century, is a Syriac Orthodox monastery known as one of the oldest still-active monasteries in the world. It is one of the religious centres of the Tur Abdin region; it is advisable to check visiting hours in advance and dress modestly.
