Tlos, within the boundaries of the village of Yakaköy in Seydikemer district, is one of the oldest settlements in the Lycian region, referred to as the 'Land of Dalawa' in Hittite texts and 'Tlawa' in Lycian inscriptions. At the foot of its commanding acropolis lie a stadium, baths, a theatre and church ruins; among the temple-fronted rock tombs cut into the slope leading up to the castle, the most striking is the Tomb of Bellerophon, showing the winged horse Pegasus battling the Chimaera. The city remained an important Lycian bishopric until the 12th century.
