Zelve Open-Air Site

Located two kilometres off the Göreme-Avanos road, Zelve is one of the areas with the densest concentration of fairy chimneys. Made up of three valleys, the settlement was an important Christian settlement and religious centre between the 9th and 13th centuries, where priests received their first training; the Fish, Grape and Deer churches are its most important. The area was inhabited until 1952 and also holds monasteries, a tunnel, a mill and a mosque alongside its churches.
