Rize Castle
A historic castle in the city centre, its inner keep dating to the Byzantine period.

Rize Castle has two parts, the inner keep and the lower castle. The inner keep is known to have been rebuilt under Justinian I (527-565), while written sources date the lower castle to the 13th-14th centuries. The castle today houses a small museum and a café, and offers a view over the city and the sea.
