Vezirköprü, in the Kızılırmak valley, is Samsun's second-largest district by population and the Turkish district with the most villages. Cuneiform tablets uncovered in excavations at Oymaağaç village suggest the site may be the Hittite sacred city of Nerik; the Arastalı Bedesten market, dated to 1160, and Şahinkaya Canyon, open to boat tours, are its highlights.
