One of Thrace's most important ancient cities, Perinthos is known for the walls encircling its acropolis and lower town; at the north-west corner they survive in places up to 6–7 metres high. The walls seen today date from the 5th century AD. The mosaics of the Perinthos Basilica are another highlight of the site.
