Opened on 1 September 1978, the museum occupies a two-storey Ottoman-period timber building where the Greek commander-in-chief Trikoupis was taken prisoner at the end of the War of Independence. Its ground floor displays local ethnographic items, old weapons, clothing and jewellery, while the upper floor is entirely devoted to an Atatürk museum, with period furniture and clothing that belonged to Atatürk.
