Yenifakılı lies in southern Yozgat, with Boğazlıyan to its east and Nevşehir's Kozaklı district to its south and west. Originally attached to Kırşehir's Avanos district, it joined Boğazlıyan in 1929 and became an independent district in 1990; farming and livestock form the basis of its economy.
