Hattusa was the capital of the Hittite Empire. The Lion Gate, the King's Gate, the stone tunnel of Yerkapı and the Great Temple are its standout remains. The city where the Hittite copy of the Treaty of Kadesh was found was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1986. The nearby Yazılıkaya open-air sanctuary can also be visited.
