Karakoçan is a district where Elazığ, Bingöl and Tunceli provinces meet. Bağin Castle on the Peri River, known for its rock-cut chambers, bears traces of the Urartians and Seljuks; the Golan and Bağin hot springs draw thousands of visitors a year, and the Kalecik reservoir is used for irrigation and recreation.
