Mazgirt

Mazgirt, in southern Tunceli, is built on the Kert Mountains, an extension of the Münzur range; Tunceli's centre and Nazımiye lie to its north, Karakoçan to its east, Kovancılar to its south and Pertek to its west. Settlement here goes back to the Bronze Age; after Urartian, Median, Persian, Roman and Byzantine rule, it came under Ottoman control from 1473. Mazgirt Castle, the Elti Hatun Tomb and the Çoban Baba Tomb are among the district's historic structures.
