Kemah, in western Erzincan, lies on the left bank of the Karasu (upper Euphrates) valley. Kemah Castle, said by some sources to date to around 205 BC, passed under various rulers through history before Yavuz Sultan Selim brought it under Ottoman rule in 1515. The Kemah Canyon and the Sultanmelik Tombs are also among the district's sights.
