Pazaryolu is a small district in northern Erzurum, close to the Black Sea Region, 124 km from the provincial centre. Formerly known as Norgah (Norakalaki, meaning 'new city', in Georgian chronicles), the area came under Ottoman rule in the 16th century, took the name Pazaryolu in 1964 and became a district in 1989. Beekeeping is widespread, and rafting is done on the Çoruh River.
