Elbistan

Elbistan, at the point where the Mediterranean, Central Anatolian and Eastern Anatolian regions meet, is one of Kahramanmaraş's largest districts, at 1,136 m elevation. Known in antiquity as Plasta and in the Byzantine period as Ablasta, the city was the capital of the Dulkadirid principality before joining Ottoman territory in 1515. On 6 February 2023, Elbistan was the epicentre of a magnitude-7.6 earthquake that caused severe damage across the district and hundreds of deaths.
