Şenpazar, about 100 km from central Kastamonu and 37 km from the coast, is a district roughly 70% covered in forest; it was formed by separating from Cide in 1987. Şehriban Canyon and part of Küre Mountains National Park lie within the district; spoon-making and basket-weaving are traditional crafts.
